What are the best cooking knives to buy?

I am looking to purchase a block of knives. The one I purchased a year ago (Calphalon) are horrible. The knives are getting rusty and they didnt keep thier sharpness. I need a good set of knives. I heard of Anolon and Henckels, but are they quality knives? Does anyone have any suggestions?

  1. Henckels or Wurstoff Trident
  2. cutco are the best. they are expensive, but you know the saying, you get what you pay for.
  3. Henkels = The finest Cutco = Best value
  4. The cutting Kind !! :)
  5. Cutco are very nice knives for the price.
  6. I prefer Chicago brand cutlery. I have had a set I got as a wedding gift (25 years ago) and they are still in good shape. As any brand of knives, I do have to sharpen them occasionally, but otherwise they have held up very well. I know they can be costly, but they are well worth it, in my opinion. They are not too heavy and are easy to work with. ((( I am a 'professional' cook/baker )))
  7. My hubby and son got me the Rachael Ray ones for xmas 4 yrs ago..They are made by Furi...I love them. They are still so sharp I have to be careful not to slice any fingers off..lol, no rust , still sharp and I love the handle..it's not plastic , it's more like hard rubber so even if wet it won't slip from fingers..I would recommend them to anyone.
  8. swiss army knife
  9. I have Furi knives. I've only had them a few years but they are still as sharp as when I got them.
  10. honestly...i am a chef for the past 13 years and i always buy the cheap knives but make sure i keep up to date with sharpening them...i would rather spend the money on other kitchen goodies, like a stand up mixer, or cuisinart or a mandolin..but german knives are good..whatever feels good in your hand and it depends on what your using it for..
  11. Shun - Japan, Wusthof- Germany, Henckels- Germany. The best knives in the world!!
  12. Cut co are the best knives. my mom bought some from my cousin because he sells them and they work great and their really sharp and expensive. my mom bought a knife that costed 108 dollars just for one.
  13. Henkels all the way...I have several of them and they are amazing to work with
